Deepika Padukone tops Maxim Hot 100 Girls Worldwide List

According to news reports, Deepika Padukone who already caught the attention of worldwide audience with her Bollywood debut in “Om Shanti Om” tops the popular Maxim Hot 100 Girls Worldwide List. The Maxim Hot list makes its debut in India and Deepika is the winner of the first edition of Maxim in India.

Deepika Padukone’s second film Bachna Ae Haseeno is due for release on Aug 15, 2008. She joins the ranks of the Bollywood celebrity winners like Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif and Kareena Kapoor. "Deepika was our choice as the winner because apart from her huge fan following with the new generation of Indians, she also has the potential to be an international face. This calls for a huge party," said Anup Kutty, editor of Maxim India.

An excited Deepika Padukone said, "To be honest, personally I never thought of myself as 'sexy' or 'hot' but if that's the call that people have taken, then I hope I live up to it. I am so excited about this". She will be felicitated by Maxim by August end in Mumbai.

Deepika Padukone is the daughter of Prakash Padukone, a badminton player of international repute. She was born on January 5, 1986 in Copenhagen, Denmark and her family moved to Bangalore when she was eleven months old. She attended Sophia High School in Bangalore and completed studies from Mount Carmel College.

While in college, she took up modeling and modeled for Liril, Dabur Lal powder, Close-Up toothpaste and Limca. She entered the international scene when Maybelline made her their new international spokesperson. She won the title “Model of the Year” at the 5th annual Kingfisher Fashion Awards and was chosen as one of the models for the Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar for 2006. She won more titles and was also chosen as the brand ambassador of Kingfisher Airlines and most recently Levi Strauss and Tissot SA.
